There is absolutely nothing I could say that hasn't already been said. Jack was such a great man. He treated every single one of his coworkers and patients like family. My heart goes out entirely to the Mattingly family as I understand how hard this all can be. Jack would always wait for everyone to leave just so he kindly & happily walk everyone out to their car to make sure everyone was safe. I always looked forward to our afternoon conversations ready for the weekend! I must say, I was never a fan of sports but I will always cheer for "GO CANES" in memory of Jack.

My Daughter and I had just met him this past year. She was going on a trip and wanted her new glasses before she left. He made sure that happened for her. He was so kind, so knowledgeable and I am so very sorry we will not get to see him again. He told us his love of the UK Wildcats and had tickets in his shirt pocket for the game that night. God bless his family, what a true loss of a wonderful Man.

I was privileged to meet this man 22 years ago when he helped me with my very first pair of glasses. Then I got the honor to work next to him almost every day for the last 5 years. I have never met someone that I never heard one bad thing about until I met this man. He was one of a kind with the kindest spirit. He also had such grace about him when dealing with difficult people that no one else wanted to deal with (haha). He truly was a legend. Mattingly family...I hope you feel the love that everyone is sending your way. I am so sorry for the loss of Jack. Our hearts hurt with you.

I had the pleasure of working with Jack for 13 years. Jack was a fantastic optician and a kind, gentle soul. Patients would come to see Jack and happily wait hours to see him (and they all knew his day off!). Simpson Optical will never be the same place with out Him. Jack will always hold a special place in my heart. Until we meet again friend!

Calgon, You would be amazed at how many people have reached out to me to tell me how much they loved and respected you. You had a lot of friends honey which don’t surprise me because I knew what a kind, gentle, loving person you were when we met 36 years ago. You were my best friend. You would also be proud of how our kids have been here to help me go through the most painful thing I’ve ever had to go through. Like I told you we will be together in heaven you just have to go before me. I miss you.. love Viv

Uncle Jack. You were a man unlike others. You were smart, funny, kind, the bestest man out there. Not one person could ever say one negative thing. I was lucky to have you in my life. To be family. To be close family. You definitely were taken to soon and too fast. I’m thankful that I was able to be here to say goodbye. You will be missed by so many because you were loved by so many because you loved so many. ❤️

My dad was a dad some people only dream of having. He worked hard his entire life to provide for his wife and children and made sure we had everything we needed. I'll never be able to pick up the phone and call "daddy" again but I know he is in a better place. Dad, like mom told you, we are all going to the same place, you just got there sooner. I love you.

Wow..I was thinking of what a wonderful man Jackie O. was. Hard to describe "good"..Jack was! #1 family man, #1 friend,#1 optician, #1 Problem solver. I knew Jack as a caring man, I know he told Viv he loved her, before he hung the phone up every time! He was proud of his kids and grandkids. But (lol) he was looking forward to retirement in Florida. Jack was a mentor to many at Simpson Optical...I was blessed to be in that group. He was kind, patient and a great teacher to his coworkers. I will always love and miss Jackie O.. Brenda Toomey

Jack had worked at Simpson Optical for many years. He was always smiling and laughing with others. My dad would bring candy to the Simpson "tribe" whenever he came in. When he passed away, Jack missed all the candy. I had seen Jack that particular day when he told me. The next time I came in, I brought a package of candy to Jack. He was delighted. What a great loss. Prayers to the family.

Uncle Jack. What to say that hasn’t already been said? Always happy, loving and the light in the room. I rarely remember ever seeing you cross or without a smile on your face. I will always picture you in my mind wearing one of those loud colorful print shirts. They so suited your personality. You will be missed but you will never be forgotten. Love, Amy Jo
