Obituary of Kelly W. Bates

Kelly W. Bates, 54, died at home in Lexington, Ky, surrounded by family on Tuesday, February 20, 2024. She was born in Lexington on May 13, 1969, to Raymond Lathrem and Barbara Overstreet (Whittington). Kelly was a Tates Creek High School graduate; she would go on after that to obtain her degree from the University of Kentucky. She worked for nearly 15 years for Commerce Lexington, Inc. where she had many accomplishments and achievements and made many friends. Kelly was a huge UK fan. She was hard-working, she loved hosting friends and family at her house for get-togethers. She was a huge social butterfly and never met a stranger. Kelly had the kindest heart and everyone who met her immediately loved her. She was a huge force in her family. She was the one who kept everything together and will be forever remembered by the legacy she leaves behind in her children. 

She is survived by her husband of over 24 years, Dann Bates. Her daughter, Karsyn Bates and her son, Bryce Bates. Her mother, Barbara Overstreet (Charles). Her half-sister Abigail Sutherland, and an ex-stepfather who loved her dearly, John Kohler. 

Other than her father, Raymond, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Kimberly Petro and Karyn Eades.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Mrs. Kelly Bates on Friday, February 23, 2024, from 5:30-9pm at Clark Legacy Center in Nicholasville. The family has asked everyone to come dressed comfortable and casual.
