Obituary of Shirley B. Chisholm

Shirley B Chisholm, 82, passed away on Monday, February 12, 2024. The wife of the late Charles Franklin Chisholm, Shirley was born October 17, 1941, in Shelby County, Kentucky to the late Luther and Lola Fortner Bohannon. A devoted member of Forks of Elkhorn Baptist Church, Shirley loved the Lord and her church. Everyone that knew her knows how much she enjoyed writing songs and singing to anyone and everyone. She is also known for her legendary “Shirley’s Rolls.” If you have not had one, you have not lived. 

Shirley is survived by her children, Suzanne Howe of Frankfort, Whitney Chisholm of Frankfort, Scott (Kay) Quire of Frankfort, Trudy (Kevin) Waldrop of Owenton, Tim (Rhonda) Chisholm of Monterey, and Troy Chisholm of Frankfort; a sister, Barbara Adams of Frankfort; brothers, Julian (Jeanne) of Shelbyville and Leland (Betty) Bohannon of Louisville; sisters-in-law, Dottie Bohannon of Eminence and Ardith Bohannon of Lexington; a brother-in-law, Clinton Wood of Oldham Co; grandchildren, Seth Weber, Ryan Quire, Luke Quire, Ashley Bryant, Noah Bryant, Courtney Sides, and Veronica Chisholm; great-grandchildren, Makaylah Jennings, Justin Jennings, Jr, Paisley Weber, Liam Weber, and Brynn Buniff.  

In addition to her loving husband of 47 years, Charles Franklin Chisholm, Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Lola Fortner Bohannon; a son-in-law, Ron Howe; sister, Catherine Wood, brothers, Gerald Bohannon, Ronald Bohannon, and Leon (Dorothy) Bohannon; and a brother-in-law, Carrel Adams.  

A Funeral Service will be held 10:45a, Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Forks of Elkhorn Baptist Church, with Rev. Todd Lester officiating. A reception to continue celebrating Shirley’s life will be held directly after the funeral at the church. Burial will be Private at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Frankfort with Ed Preston Randal Bohannon, Grady Gillis, Steve Wood, Charlie Jones, and Gary O’Nan serving as Honorary Pallbearers. Visitation will be held from 9:00a until the time of service at Forks of Elkhorn Baptist Church on Saturday.
