Obituary of James Douglas Hatfull

James “Jim” Douglas Hatfull, devoted husband, father, and grandfather, died unexpectedly at home on January 30, 2024. Jim was born in Oceanside, NY in 1937. He was recently preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Margaret “Mickey” Adelaide Hatfull, who passed away on November 20, 2023.

Jim was a long-time employee of IBM, and later Lexmark, retiring from both. Jim also served his country as a member of the United States Coast Guard in his earlier years.

As part of his work in the Coast Guard, Jim learned how to cook and later cooked often for his family, passing on this love of cooking to all three of his sons.

Jim and Mickey had a love of antiques and anything old. They maintained a booth at the Georgetown Antique Mall for decades and spent much time together traveling to purchase inventory for the booth and for their own collections. Jim was also something of a handyman and did woodworking to support Mickey’s tole painting activities. They traveled together to various craft shows where they sold the items Jim made and Mickey painted. Jim also enjoyed watching many sports, especially football and golf. In his younger years, he played golf often.

He is preceded in death by his wife Mickey, parents Edgar “Ed” and Lillian Hatfull (nee Kelly), brother Robert, and stillborn granddaughter Teresa Hatfull.

He is survived by sister Doris “Dee” (Daniel) Perez, sons Keith (Dianne), Owen (Jodi), and Wesley (Lesley); grandchildren, Emma (Brandon) Rust, Heather, Eric, Rebecca, and Kaley Hatfull, along with many wonderful friends and neighbors who all miss him dearly.

Private graveside services will be observed by his family in the Versailles Cemetery.
