Obituary of Mary Belle Hazelwood

Mary Belle Hazelwood was born August 28, 1926 to Jessie and Revie Presley in Lexington, KY, where she lived her entire life. She died January 9, 2024 at 97 years old.

Mary married Charles Hazelwood on January 5, 1946. They were married 60 years. Mary and Charles had three sons, Wayne, Larry and Ric. Mary is predeceased by all of them, except Ric who survives.

Mary is also predeceased by two brothers, one sister and her best friends, Bobby and Betty Roberts.

Clearly, Mary was a survivor. She loved her people fierce and she fought hard. If she was mad at you, you knew it, but down deep her love never wavered and you knew that, too.

Mary was a lifelong member of Heritage Baptist Church f/k/a Ashland Avenue Baptist Church. She read the Bible cover to cover many times during her life. After being sick one time several years ago, she said she saw “her angel”, which gave her great comfort. This and her sheer determination got her through many health scares and life tribulations.

Mary was the keeper of the blue eyes for the family. She shared them with her grandchildren, greats and great-greats who will always be reminded of their special origin.

Mary’s spunk and tenacity will be deeply missed by everyone who loved her. She will forever be our first thought when spotting a hummingbird.

In addition to her son, Mary is survived by her grandchildren, great- grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and special cousins.

A private memorial service will take place at a later date, with her burial following at Bluegrass Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of donations, Mary’s son would like everyone to spread God’s love to others.
