CATHARINE HEPNER SLACK

January 12, 1942 - December 25, 2023

Catharine (Cathie) Hepner Slack passed away on December 25, 2023. She was born on January 12, 1942 in Dayton, Ohio. Cathie is survived by Charlie, her husband of 59 years; daughter Mandy (Robert Baker) Slack of Westerville, OH; son, Howard (Gina) Slack of Nicholasville, KY; grandchildren Katie and Lucy Baker; Nate, Asher, and Ruby Slack; brother John (Kathleen) Hepner Jr.; sister-in-law, Linda Hepner and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents John H. and E. Mildred (Stebbins) Hepner and brother Edward O. Hepner. Cathie graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1964 with a Bachelors of Science in Home Economics with a minor in Art. A longtime member of Fayette Rose and Garden Club, serving as president several times. Cathie taught adult education classes including: French Cooking, Bread Making, Furniture Refinishing, and Chair Caning. She was an avid gardener and landscaper with a great love for flowers. Cathie loved to draw and paint in her spare time. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Cathie loved to travel. She made several trips to Europe, visiting Germany, France, Spain, and England (to see the Chelsea Garden Show!). Cathie was beautiful inside and out. She had a beautiful smile, an infectious laugh, and a great sense of humor. Cathie was an active member of Providence Christian Church serving on the Board, as a Deacon and a member of the Women’s Service Group. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Providence Christian Church or the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Cathie Slack.

Visitation is on December 29th from 4-6 pm at Providence Christian Church. The service will be at 6 pm followed by the reception also at the church.
