Obituary of Ben Markwell

Edward Benjamin Markwell, 87, passed away on Tuesday, December 12, 2023. The husband of the late Ada Carol Wright Markwell, Ben was born September 4, 1936, to Worley Markwell and Katie Ellison Terrell in Versailles, Kentucky. He had a great love for farming and woodworking, but also enjoyed both fishing and hunting throughout his life. Ben loved grilling steaks and making memories while delighting in his homemade ice cream.  

Ben is survived by his children, Debbie Markwell of Lexington, Renee (Tommy Holman) Nelson of Versailles, and Ben (Judy) Markwell of New York; his grandchildren, Michael Bostic, Amanda Bostic, Faith Nelson, Sadie Grace Nelson, Lillian Markwell, and Daniel Nelson; great-grandchildren, Kara Brown, Aiden Brown, Oliver Nelson, and Aspen Moffett; and a great-great grandson, Tyson Bell.  

In addition to his loving wife, Ada Carol Markwell and parents, Worley Markwell and Katie Terrell, Ben was preceded in death by his twin babies, Donnie Markwell and Connie Markwell; son-in-law, Jason Nelson; and brothers, Henry Markwell, Paul Roger Markwell, Pete Markwell, and David Markwell.  

A Celebration of Life service will be held 12:00pm, Monday, December 18, 2023, at Clark Funeral Home, Rose Hill, Versailles. The family invites attendees to bring their stories and memories of Ben to share! Burial will be private at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Frankfort, with Ben’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren serving as Pallbearers.  Visitation will be held from 11:00am until the time of Celebration on Monday, at the funeral home.
