Frank Whitehouse

Obituary of Frank Carl Whitehouse

Lexington -Frank Carl Whitehouse, 75, passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 17, 2023 with his wife, son, daughter and son-in-law by his side. He showed tremendous strength and courage during his 3 year battle with cancer.

Frank was born in Wheeling, West Virginia on April 10, 1948, to the late Carl Arthur and Lois Winland Whitehouse. He was raised in Wheeling, WV with his three siblings and graduated from Tridelphia High School where he was a gifted athlete. This is also where he met his wife of 52 years Patty Carte Whitehouse. Although, they moved to Lexington, KY soon after, Frank stayed proud of his “West by God Virginia” roots (he would tell anyone who listened).

In Lexington Frank worked as an Environmental Engineer at IBM/Lexmark for 40+ years until he retired in 2012. He and Patty raised 2 children Jody and Jason that he loved dearly. His children remember a father that never missed a game and was a constant cheerleader whether in the stands or as their coach. He also made sure his children spent a week every summer at Camp Luther (Cowen, WV) where he served as a dean. He loved that time and was beloved by many campers and counselors.

A huge part of Frank’s life was his extended family. Many summers were spent in Virginia. Whether it was boogey boarding, fishing, or driving a carload of kids to a waterpark, Frank was a consummate kid at heart and was beloved by many nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law.

Frank was loved by many, especially his three granddaughters that referred to him as PapPap. Abby, Kate, and Caroline were bright spots in his life. He and Patty spent every Saturday night for the past 20 years with them. He was beyond proud of them and loved them dearly.

Frank was a nature lover at heart and LOVED being outside. Whether it was spending countless hours in the yard gardening, throwing frisbee with his many pets, golfing with his son-in-law Ross or in retirement spending almost every waking hour sitting on the deck enjoying the hummingbirds and his purple martins, he would choose being outside any day of the week.

In honoring Frank’s wishes a private family celebration of life will occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family ask donations to be made to Reforest the Bluegrass, a program that was important to Frank.
