Obituary of Karen Harp

Karen Harp, 67, of Nicholasville, passed away on May 2, 2023, in Bradenton, Florida, her “happy place.”

Since retirement, she lived her dream of spending winters in Florida at her home at Horseshoe Cove, where she attended every card game and social event. She spent her summers boating on Herrington and Cave Run lakes and traveled to arts and crafts fairs around the state each fall. She was a vocal follower of Kentucky basketball (particularly during the Pitino years) and was Bob Seger’s biggest fan. She was known to religiously document her many adventures and her travel on Facebook.

Karen grew up in Danville, Kentucky and was a proud graduate of Danville High School (1973). She attended Cumberland College in Williamsburg, Kentucky and graduated in 1977 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. Over the years, Karen worked as a counselor, insurance agent, and most recently, an administrative assistant at the Jessamine County Library.

Karen is survived by her husband, Michael Harp, daughter, Kara Harp, lifelong best friend, Billie Ann Bailey, and many other special friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Gordon, grandfather, Henry McDonald, and her beloved Granny, Mary McDonald.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be held on Saturday, June 17th, 2:00-4:00 pm at Clark Legacy Center - Brannon Crossing in Nicholasville. A private burial was held at Bellevue Cemetery in Danville.
