Obituary of Sheelagh Haswell Day

Lexington - Sheelagh Monica Day, beloved wife of Brendon Day, passed away on April 25, 2023, in Lexington at the age of 73. She was born on October 21, 1949, in Westcliffe-on-Sea, Essex, United Kingdom, to the late Henry James Douglas Alford Haswell and Lillian Sheekey Haswell. Sheelagh touched the lives of many through her dedication, intelligence, humor, and compassion.


Sheelagh was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her husband, Brendon Day, her son, Simon Day, grandson, Liam Day, her daughter, Marie-Claire Day and husband Eric Schmidt. She is also survived by her sister, Eileen Vaughan, and brother, Michael Haswell.

Sheelagh attended Goldsmith’s College (St. Gabriel's) at the University of London, later completing post-graduate courses at York University in Toronto. She began her professional life as a teacher in London, England with a passion for working with an inner-city population, continuing her teaching career in Toronto, Canada, where she was also active in aiding students within the Catholic school system with preparing for First Communion and First Reconciliation. She then transitioned into the role of Vice President of Sector Technology Inc. in the United States.


She was particularly proud of her involvement in volunteer groups across multiple countries. These included the British Red Cross Society in England and the St. Vincent de Paul Society, St. Joseph Hospital, and Christ the King in Lexington.

 
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Cathedral of Christ the King on Friday, May 5th at 11:00 AM, where we will gather to honor and celebrate Sheelagh's life. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and generosity. Memorial contributions may be made in honor of Sheelagh to the St. Vincent de Paul Society through the Cathedral of Christ the King.
