Obituary of Gary Hugh Mitchell

Gary Hugh Mitchell (73), Frankfort, passed away in his home on March 18, 2023.   

 As a graduate of Frankfort High School, owner of Mitchell’s Country Store, state employee, and devoted church member, Gary knew someone everywhere he went. He was known by his friends as a willing servant and faithful man of God.  He was particularly proud of his role as “Goo” to his many grandchildren.   

 Gary was a musician and songwriter all his life. He had a particular talent for expressing himself through song.  Most recently, he was a member of the group, Ole Elkhorn Pickers.  He loved playing for the praise band at church. He and his musician friends started a mission program sharing God’s love with people in assisted living.  

Aside from his love for music, Gary was passionate about his mission work with God’s Appalachian Partnership.  He traveled many times with Jeanie and fellow church members from Forks of Elkhorn Baptist Church to minister to the people in Appalachia.  

Gary’s family will have a gathering of family and friends from 12pm – 1pm followed by a celebration of life service on March 30, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Forks of Elkhorn Church. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to God’s Appalachian Partnership (McDowell, Ky), Forks of Elkhorn Baptist Church or Hospice of the Bluegrass in Gary’s memory.
