Obituary of Brenda Sue Sherrod

Brenda Sue Sherrod, 70, took her first breath in Heaven at 9:35 p.m. on January 25, 2023. She was at her home in Frankfort, KY surrounded by her loving family and a very dear friend. She was born in Portsmouth, OH on July 5, 1952 to the late James H. Lowdenback and Edith Nellie Billups Lowdenback. Brenda graduated from McKell High School in South Shore, KY and attended Ashland Community College. She was of the Christian faith and enjoyed visiting the Black Oak Christian Church with her sister and Journey Church in Versailles and Southeast Christian Church in Louisville with her son and family.

She was employed for 40 years with Ashland Oil/Marathon Petroleum. She retired from their Findlay, OH headquarters on January 1, 2013 and relocated back to KY to be close to her son and his family.

Brenda loved her family and her four granddaughters more than anything. They brought Gramma so much love and joy and she was so proud of each of them. Her favorite place to visit was the Great Smokey Mountains in Tennessee. She was happiest and at peace surrounded by God’s beauty of the mountains shared with her family and friends.

Brenda endured a lot during the past few months but she held strong to her favorite bible verse, Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” She fought hard to overcome the cancer attacking her body but she knew no matter what happened, God was in control and she found the strength to accept His plans and was at peace.

Left to cherish her memory are her beloved son, Jonathan Rodney and his wife Kristin Sherrod of Simpsonville, KY; her sister, Anita and her husband Jack Gilbert of Quincy, KY; brother, James Anthony and his wife Melody Lowdenback of Easley, SC, and four precious grandchildren Brittany, Trinity, Brooklynn, and Kinleigh. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Arnold and Nellie Billups and a nephew, Eric B. Hickle, whom she adored.

At Brenda’s request, there will be a private family memorial service held at a later date. Arrangements for Brenda Sue Sherrod are being entrusted to Clark Legacy Center in Frankfort KY.
