Obituary of Steve B. Brooks

Steve B. Brooks, 78 of Lexington passed away on December 17, 2022, at the VA Medical Center in Lexington, KY. Steve was born in Versailles, KY. He was preceded in death by his mother Helen Million Brooks, and stepfather James B. Brooks. Steve is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Carrico Brooks, and sons Brian, Kevin, and Michael. His sister Sandra (Steve) Lengel, niece Jackie (Josh) Bodenhamer, and nephew Steven (Jeanie) Lengel.

Steve was a graduate of Bryan Station High School, and attended Eastern Kentucky University. He was a proud Eagle Scout, member of the USMC, serving in Vietnam. Steve spent his professional career with the Lexington Urban Co. Police Department.

Steve was a devoted family man and loved coaching youth football at Shillito Park. He and other police officers were instrumental in starting the Police Athletic League and coached there for many years. He was an avid motorcycle rider and loved vacationing on the beach with family and friends. His favorite past time was cheering on the UK football and basketball teams.

Graveside services with military honors will be held on December 22, 12:30PM at Camp Nelson National Cemetery, 6980 Danville Rd, Nicholasville, KY.

A celebration of life will be held at the Clark Legacy Center, 601 E Brannon Road, Nicholasville, KY from 2PM – 4PM.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the UK Kentucky Children’s Hospital, 800 Rose St Fourth Floor, Lexington KY, 40536.
