Obituary of Robert William "Bob" Fullerton

Robert William “Bob” Fullerton Sr. died peacefully in his home in Lexington, KY on September, 19, 2021 with his loving wife and family members at his side. He was 92.  Bob was born on June 25, 1929 in Etna, PA to Henry James and Ethel Viola Fullerton. He attended Etna High School and then in 1951 he received a Chemical Engineering degree from Carnegie Tech. Bob enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1953 and served his country for 3 years during the Korean War. A few years after returning from Korea, Bob laid his eyes on a young lady who would become the love of his life. It was love at first sight, and after a few months of dating Bob asked Barbara Mae Poad for her hand in marriage. They were married in December 1958. They built their life together in Monroeville, PA where they lived for 48 years while raising two sons. Later on they moved to Lexington, KY to be close to a new born grandson.  In his professional life Bob was employed as a chemical engineer by U.S. Steel Corporation for 34 years, serving in various technical and consulting roles at their research center in Monroeville, PA. He was a member of the Good Shepard Lutheran church in Monroeville, PA and also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Georgetown, KY. Bob enjoyed watching his Pittsburgh Steelers in action, bowling with his U.S. Steel bowling league, watching his son’s high school and college sporting endeavors, playing bridge with friends, golfing with his wife and friends in their couples golf league, and savoring his wife’s wonderful cooking and baking, especially her apricot pie and her lemon-apple pie.  Bob was a true gentleman in every sense of the word. He will be remembered for his kind and quiet nature, his razor sharp recollection of facts, stories, and jokes, and his country western alter ego “Bobby Bill.” His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his loving wife and best friend for 63 years Barbara Mae Fullerton; his two sons Robert William Fullerton Jr., James Richard Fullerton; his three grandchildren Andie Fullerton, Carlos Fullerton, Zachary Fullerton; and sister Rea Mae Fullerton.  The family wishes to thank the staff of Magnolia Springs Senior Living and Bluegrass Hospice Care for their kind and thoughtful service and support during Bob’s final weeks.  A memorial service will be held at a later date at First United Methodist Church at 1280 Lexington Road, Georgetown, KY.
