Obituary of Franklin D. Coots

Franklin D. Coots, 82, of Nicholasville Kentucky, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 24, 2021, with his loving wife, Brenda by his side.

He was born in Letcher County Kentucky on February 22, 1939, son of the late Polly Fouts and Anderson L. Coots. He is survived by his wife Brenda H. Coots, a daughter, Rhonda Hughes (Arthur), and 2 grandchildren, Shawn Hughes and Sarah Hughes.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Tammy Vanover and a granddaughter, Cathy Vanover, 2 sisters, Evelyn Woods, Delores Lunsford, and 2 brothers, Kermit Coots, Harold Coots. Surviving in addition are 2 sister’s Wanda Johnson (Jessie-deceased), Lois Faye McGuire (Donald), and 3 brothers, Lowell Coots (Lou- deceased), Jerry Coots (Brenda- deceased), Ronnie Coots (Judy) and a host of nieces and nephew’s who loved him.

Franklin graduated from Lafayette High School, Lexington Ky, in 1957. Following graduation, he served in the United States Army and served his country proudly for 4 years. Franklin would later work at IBM as a Mechanical Engineer for over 30 years before retiring to settle down at his farm, Alpha Farms in Nicholasville Kentucky.

Franklin was an avid outdoors man and enjoyed working on his farm. In recent years, he would have outdoor youth adventure day/week camps on his farm where kids could experience farm life through helping take care of the animals, horseback riding, hay-rides, crafts, and a host of other things. He also was a mentor to many boys and girls through the Big Brother/Big Sister’s organization. An avid fisher, Franklin could be found fishing in the evenings on his farm or sitting with his wife out on the back deck enjoying the scenery.

He was a member long-time member of the American Legion Post #63 in Nicholasville, Ky and a current member of Nicholasville Christian Church, Nicholasville Kentucky.

Gathering of Family & Friends will be held from 10 to 12, Thursday, April 29, 2021 at Clark Legacy Center 601 E. Brannon Rd. Nicholasville Ky 40356, where a funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon. The Rev. Lon Oliver will be officiating.
