Obituary of Carilyn Barton

Carilyn Barton, 88, passed away on Sunday March 28, 2021.  She is survived by her children: Valerie Walling, Jackie (Dennis) Dayman, Mark Barton (Pam Jones), and Jim (Nina) Barton: her grandchildren, Joshua Walling, Jessica (Jeremiah) Terry, Jeremiah Walling (Mariam Alabdali), Kody Barton, Holly Barton, Jacob Barton, and Austin (Caitlyn) Barton and great granddaughters Remi Maelyn Terry, Emma Barton, Elizabeth Barton, and Eve Barton.

Carilyn was born in Kansas City, MO on April 1, 1932. She was adopted by Ira and May Harris in July of that year. She grew up in Creston, IA, graduating from Creston Iowa High School in 1950, and married Walter Barton that same year.  As the wife of a career Air Force Serviceman she lived all over the United States for the next 19 years and raised four children.  She returned to live in Creston in 1969, where she joined the Police Department in 1970, graduated from the Iowa Police Academy and proudly served on the Creston PD, retiring in 1983. She went back to college and earned a degree and worked at the Cross Roads Health Care for several years. In her early “retirement” years she worked for Bernings and Super 8 Motels as a desk clerk, fully retiring in 2000.  She moved to San Benito, Texas, living there from 2001 to 2016. In 2016 she moved to Lexington, KY, to be closer to family. While in Lexington, she lived with her daughter, Valerie.  She was fortunate to have two grandchildren and one great granddaughter to share the last few years of her life with.

There will not be a service at this time; however, there will be a small family gathering, date and location to be determined.

If you wish to honor our mother, grandmother, our friend, please help another in need.  Pay it forward, as she would have wanted.
