Obituary of Don Aubrey

<b>Lexington, KY</b> Donald French Aubrey, 68, beloved father and son, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2013 in the comfort of his own home, with his loved ones by his side. He is survived by two daughters; firstborn Catherine Louise (Donnie) Aubrey Bowers and his "baby girl" Cynthia Joanne (Aubrey) Taylor (Reece); three beautiful grandchildren, Brandon Eugene Bowers (Kaelee), Jordan Aubrey Bowers and his "baby doll" Jalyn Brooke Elaine Bowers; one great-grandson Berkley Clay Bowers and one sister Eva June Hicks, of Florida. Once married, he is survived by Janis Reeves Aubrey, wife of 37 years, and a special friend, Sandra Baumgardner. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Mamie French Aubrey. Honorary pallbearers are Carey Newman, Jimmy Eddington, Wallace Abe, Buddy Reeves, Billy Ellis, Donnie Bowers, Brandon Bowers and Jordan Bowers. Don was born in Fayette County, KY on Dec. 29, 1944 and attended Lafayette High School in <b>Lexington, KY</b>, before serving in the US Army from 1962-1965. A faithful employee of the University of Kentucky, Don worked in the Physical Plant Division as both an electrician and an electrician technician, for 30 years before retiring in 2007. He was a devout conservative, fan of country music, outdoorsman, and member of the NRA. Don was also an avid hunter and spent many fall seasons, up in a tree stand waiting for the elusive big one. Don had a love and passion for racing, and was a fan of NASCAR (#24) and Indy. Some of his fondest memories were coaching girls in softball and basketball, and playing softball himself for the Metro Breakers and Cardinal Concrete. He will always be remembered for his strength, strong will and perseverance while battling lung cancer for nearly four years. Special thanks to Dr. Susanne Arnold and the Oncology Team at the UK Markey Cancer Center for their expertise and excellent care throughout his journey. Also, the family would like to thank the Hospice of the Bluegrass, for their compassion and care, helping him make this transition from his life here on earth as comfortable as possible. <b>Funeral Information</b> Private graveside service at Camp Nelson National Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends will be from 5-7pm, Monday, December 2, 2013 at Clark Legacy Center, Brannon Crossing with a time of sharing to begin at 6pm.
