Obituary of Marcus E. Nash

<b>Obituary</b> Marcus E. Nash, of Lizella, Georgia, died in the early morning of October 22, 2012. Born on January 28, 1926, on Willow Branch in Franklin County, he lived for most of his life in Frankfort KY in the Bellepoint neighborhood. He attended a one-room school on Harp Pike and was in the first class of students to enter Bald Knob High School. He was inducted into the U.S. Navy shortly after his 18th birthday and was assigned to the LCS(L) 12, the flagship for Group Eight, which won the Navy Unit Recommendation for its leading role in the assault on Okinawa. After WWII, he worked for General Electric at Appliance Park in Louisville KY, retiring in 1989. He was an avid fisherman, quail hunter, and gardener. He was the oldest living member of the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. He was also active in the local VFW before moving to Georgia a year ago. He is predeceased by his father, Marcus Nash; his mother, Stella Herrell Hutcherson; half sisters Linnie and Elizabeth Herrell and Pearl Brumbach; half brothers Irving and Richard Tyre; and brother Garnett Nash. He is survived by one son, Dr. Scott Nash (wife Dawn) of Macon GA; one sister, Margaret Lester of Lexington KY; one brother, Victor Nash of Hattiesburg MS; two grandsons, Marcus Coleman Nash (wife Alena) of Macon GA and Christopher Scott Nash (wife Nicole) of Louisville KY; and three great-grandsons, Peyton Ezra Nash of Louisville KY and Ethan Hartley Nash and Aidan Scott Bowman Nash of Macon GA. <b>Funeral Information</b> Visitation will be held at Clark Legacy Center on Versailles Road from 5:00-7:00 P.M. on Thursday, October 25. The funeral service will be held at Clark's at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, with burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Dr. Scott Nash, son of the deceased, will officiate, assisted by the Reverend Ray Cummins, nephew of the deceased. A reception for family and friends will be held following the service at the Capitol Plaza Hotel.
