Obituary of George Owens Jr

<b>Obituary</b> George W. Owens, Jr., 74, was born in Louisville, on May 6, 1939, the day that Johnstown won the Derby. He began his final journey on Monday, June 17, 2013. He is a former resident of Dayton, OH; Myrtle Bch, SC; and has resided in Nicholasville, KY for the past 7 years. He attended grade school at Trinity and high school at St. X. George served in the Navy as storekeeper on the USS Chewaucan, USS Mercury, USS Antaires during 1956-1962. He also served in the US Army Reserves 138th ARTY KYARNG. He fell in love with the game of golf at the age of 11, beginning as a caddy. He joined the PGA in the early 60's as a Pro for a brief tour. Most of his life he held positions as food/beverage managers at Toddle House/Steak Egg, Tate's Creek CC, and retired from Dobb's House Intn'l after 25 yrs of service in numerous US airports. He remained passionate in honoring the Military Veterans that so proudly served the Country, as he did. George has been a friend of Bill W. for 20 years. George leaves behind his loving family; his Wife, Pattie Cottle Owens, of 27 years; Sons, Daniel Mark Owens, LaGrange, KY and Timothy C. Owens, USCG Chief Warrant Officer, and wife, Heather, Ocean Springs, MS; Daughters, Amy McClain Adams, Middleburg, VA and Melissa Underwood Gehefer, and husband, Eddie, Cocoa Beach, FL; Grandchildren, Savannah McClain Spears, and husband, Chris, Daniel Cody Owens, Emily Underwood, Christopher Adams, Kyle Anna Graves, Sean Patrick Flaherty; Great-grandchildren, Sophia and Sawyer Spears; Sister, Rhonda Owens Frey, husband, William, Louisville; loving Aunts, Louise Harbolt, Dottie Schnell, Shirley Reiss. George will be missed by his four-legged kids, rescue pups, Phoebe and Bogie. George was preceded in death by his Father, George W. Owens, Sr.; Mother, Katherine Taylor Owens Murnane; and Daughter, Adrienne Flaherty. Our entire family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. John Harrison, the entire staff at Baptist ICU South, RT, Wilma 5th floor Pallative Care Unit, Dr. Brewer. The care you gave George touched all of our hearts. <b>Funeral Information</b> George has asked that his friends gather to share their stories, memories, good times and celebrate his life. This gathering will be held at Clark Legacy Center, Brannon Crossing, from 4-7 PM, on Wednesday, June 19. Final interment will be held at Camp Nelson National Cemetery, Thursday, June 20 at 12:30. A procession will leave Clark's at 11:50 AM.
