Obituary of William Douglas "Doug" Owens

<b>Obituary</b> William Douglas "Doug" Owens, 61, husband of 38 years to Kathy Elliott Owens, lost his battle with cancer on January 12, 2012. He was born on January 17, 1950 in Lexington, KY to E.W. "Dusty" and Mary Keller Owens. A graduate of Lafayette High School, Doug served in the U.S. Marine Corps before joining the Lexington Fayette Urban County Fire Department as a firefighter. He was assigned to the first platoon and worked most of his career at Station 15 in Shillito Park. Doug retired from the fire department in 2000. Doug was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 762. He served as Grand Knight for two years. He was also the Commander of the John C. Breckinridge Camp 100 Sons of the Confederate Veterans. Doug was an avid collector of model cars and fire department memorabilia. His interests include: family genealogy, Kentucky and Civil War history, flea markets, gardening, fishing, NHRA and NASCAR racing, Columbus Blue Jackets hockey and any team that played against UK. In addition to his wife Kathy and his parents, Doug leaves behind his two children, Cindy (Daniel) Townsend and Jennifer (Kerman) Holland; three grandchildren, Mason Brewer, Cora Holland and Alex Townsend; and eight siblings and their families. <b>Funeral Information</b> A Memorial Mass will be 12 pm, Monday, January 16, 2012 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Lexington, Kentucky. A Gathering of Family and Friends will be 1-4 pm, Saturday, January 21, 2012 at Clark Legacy Center in Brannon Crossing.
