Obituary of Thelma Georgianna White

<b>Obituary</b> Thelma Georgiana Schier White, 95 of Lexington, Kentucky, died Tuesday, September 25, 2012. Thelma was born in Buffalo, New York on February 13, 1917 and resided in western New York most her life. She attended the University of Buffalo and Eastman School of Dental Hygiene. She worked as a dental hygienist in New York while raising 2 sons and helping her husband run a 100 acre Angus farm. Thelma continued her active life after the death of her husband Gerald. In 1982, she moved to Lexington and worked as a dental hygienist, for Drs. William J. Carpenter, William Edward Hampton and John Thompson, becoming known as the oldest, active hygienist in the State of Kentucky, retiring at 78. She was active in her church and community and at her retirement center, Richmond Place, where she lived for the past 9 years. She was a member of Southern Hills Methodist Church, the Pat Herren Circle and the Lexington Women's Club. She was also a Pink Lady Volunteer for Good Samaritan Hospital, for many years. Thelma loved life and was a friend to everyone she met. In return, she was well loved by all who knew her. She was affectionately known as "The Orchid Lady" at Richmond Place. Thelma became a UK Donovan Scholar learning to do oil painting well into her 70's and was very proud of her work that was on exhibit every spring at the University. She was married to Gerald White for 41 years before his death in 1981. Her surviving family include 2 sons: Dale(Brenda) White of Lexington, Kentucky, Terry (Kim) White of St. Petersburg, Florida, grandsons: Gregory (Jenny) of Austin, Texas along with their twin daughters, Harper and Lucy, Mark (Katherine) White of Greenville, South Carolina as well as their sons, Henry and Lucas, Robby (Dawn) White of St. Augustine, Florida. The family would like to thank all nurses and staff at Richmond Place Rehabilitation Center for all their caring and loving attention, as well as the wonderful people from Hospice of the Bluegrass. She was truly blessed to have such special people caring for her these last weeks. <b>Funeral Information</b> A Memorial service celebrating her life will be held at Southern Hills United Methodist Church at 11:30 AM, Wednesday, October 3, 2012 followed by a reception in her honor where family will visit with guests. A private burial of her remains will be held at a later date in Darien Center, New York along side her late husband.
