Mary Kidd

Obituary of Mary Louise Kidd

Lexington, KY Mary Louise "Wease" Kidd, 87, died on Monday, July 21, 2014. She lived in Burke County N.C. for most of her life and spent her last years in Lexington, Ky. She has gone to another world; a place where her mind traveled throughout her days on earth. She had a generous heart, a brilliant mind and a great imagination. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rollie B. Kidd, Jr. She was also preceded in death by her brother Benjamin C. Watkins, Jr. and is survived by two siblings, Eugene Watkins and Sarah Huffman. She is survived by her children, Mike (Linda) Kidd, Beth (Ron) Mills, and Jeff (Sonya) Kidd. She has eight grandchildren: Alex, Sam, Rachel, Kristin, Henry, Rebecca, Josie, Lily and two great grandchildren, Trent and Rosa. There are numerous others for whom she stood in as mom or grand mom: Jimmy and Rachel, Dorothy and family, Kim and Erin. Wease graduated with degrees in both English and Math from Appalachian State University. She taught high school for forty years and gave the love of great literature and the ability to write a decent paragraph to generations of students. Along with the knowledge, she gave all of them love. Wease was a member of the First United Methodist Churches in Morganton, N.C. and Lexington, KY. She was active in the mission work of her churches. In her retirement years, she volunteered to band Canadian geese to mark their flight patterns; was a Spellbinder storyteller for elementary students; tutored students from Vietnam and Taiwan in English; and was the Chair of the Environmental Committee for the League of Women Voters. Her family and friends were her greatest joy followed most closely by books. She was a big fan of all music, but most especially jazz. She loved to spend time walking in the woods whenever she got the chance. Her philosophy of life might be best summed up in this Shakespeare quote: "And this, our life, exempt from public haunt, finds tongues in trees, books in the running brooks, sermons in stones, and good in everything." Funeral Information A memorial service will be held at a later date at Oak Hill Methodist Church, Morganton, N.C.
