Obituary of Katherine Elizabeth Melton

<b>Lexington, KY</b> Lexington - Katherine E. Melton, 89, mother of Cedaliah Melton (Larry) Schaaf, Jack D. (Patsy) Melton, John T. (Lois) Melton II, and Christopher D. Melton, took her final solo flight on August 20, 2015. She is also survived by a brother James A. (Georgene) Moore; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. She is preceded in death by her husband John Thomas Melton and her parents Arch and Ruby (Lovelace) Gish. Katherine was born and raised in Henderson, Kentucky, residing there until relocating to Lexington five years ago. She was a woman of strong faith and spiritual values, actively participating in her church as a leader, pianist (self-taught), and Sunday school teacher as well as Bible study. She further served her community through her volunteer work in her children's classrooms, Parent Teacher Association, and as part of the Ladies Auxiliary of the local hospital. Katherine was an avid reader of all types of books and loved to travel around the country visiting friends, family, and researching the family's genealogy. She had compiled the histories of multiple family lines, dating back to the 1700s in some cases. In addition, she had written and published a book, along with a cousin, on one of the family lines. Katherine spent much of her life serving others as a counselor, a life coach, and a mentor. Certified by the American Federation of Astrologers, she had many clients who sought her advice. She was a loving and forever forgiving woman with a quick wit and willingness to share her wisdom. <b>Funeral Information</b> There will be a celebration of Katherine's life at 2 PM, Saturday, September 12, 2015, followed by a reception from 3-5 PM at Clark Legacy Center in Brannon Crossing.
