Obituary of Cheryl Lenay Craig

<b>Online Obituaries for Frankfort, Ky</b> Cheryl Lenay Thompson Craig, 51, daughter of the late Geraldine Burr Thompson and Norman Thompson, died Sunday, November 2, 2014. Cheryl was born on November 5, 1962 in Cincinnati, Ohio. In her youth, she was ardent gymnast and pursued this passion throughout her life. Cheryl graduated from Franklin County High School where she was a cheerleader. She attended the University of Louisville where she majored in Social Work and cheered for the Lady Cardinals Basketball team. She married the late Derrick Keith Craig and from this union, they were blessed with three children, Christopher Derrick, Corey Keith and Chelsea Lenai. She was retired from Kentucky State University. During her long tenure at KSU, she served as the university's first Veteran's Administration Specialist for the Office of the Registrar; Administrative Assistant for the School of Public Administration, and secretary to KSU's 12th and 13th Presidents. A dedicated employee, Cheryl acted as an unofficial advisor and mentor to countless students. She also served as KSU's Cheerleading Coach. Cheryl was a very active member of the Frankfort community. For many years, she coached Frankfort Youth Football League Rams cheerleaders. She also served as coach for various cheerleading squads in the Franklin County School District. Cheryl was an avid sports enthusiast and never failed to attend the sporting events and school activities of all her young loved ones. Cheryl is survived by her loving companion, Haywood Wright; her father, Norman Thompson and step-mother, Francine Hawkins Thompson; siblings, Cynthia Lynne (Roosevelt) Shelton; Cherian Lenora (Kenneth) Brooks and Chris Thompson; step-siblings, Jill Goyochea, Eric Coulter and Joe Hawkins; children, Christopher (Sonia), Corey (Kiah) and Chelsea Craig; grandchildren, Aniyah, Adrian, and Corey II; nephew Greg-Thomas (Paris) Anderson, nieces Salem and Amirah Shelton; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends. <b>Funeral Information</b> Cheryl's life celebration will be held at Clark Legacy Center, Frankfort, KY on Saturday, November 8, 2014. Visitation with the family begins at 11:00 a.m. with a memorial service at 1:00 p.m.
