Obituary of Landon R. Pilcher

<b>Obituary</b> Landon R. Pilcher, 90, died Friday April,12 at Frankfort Regional Medical Center. Special Agent Landon R. Pilcher was born on October 27, 1922, a native of Franklin County, Kentucky. He attended school in Franklin County and completed courses in Kentucky History and Business Communications at the University of Kentucky. Mr. Pilcher is preceded in death by his wife Joy Stonecypher Pilcher formerly of Waynesburg, Kentucky. After completing a six month course in blueprint and toolmaking at the Lafayette School in Lexington in 1941, he went to work at the Sunship and Dry Dock Company in Chester, Pennsylvania. In March of 1942, he went to work for the U.S. Government in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and joined the Civil Service Police and Security Forces in September, 1943 and was assigned to criminal investigation in Pearl Harbor in 1945. Landon returned to Kentucky in November, 1946 and joined the Kentucky Highway Patrol on March 3, 1947. He was assigned to the Investigation Division in July, 1948 and completed the first State Police basic training course in September, 1948. Mr. Pilcher specialized in Homicide Investigation after attending several courses in Homicide at the Harvard Medical School in Boston, and refresher courses in New Hampshire and Baltimore, Maryland. He taught basic courses in Homicide and sex offenses at the Cadet Training School and was on the pistol team in the early 1950s. After resigning from the State Police, he went to work for the National Automobile Theft Bureau on March 21, 1954, after spending several weeks in Chicago, Kansas City, and Oklahoma, was assigned to Kentucky where he worked with law enforcement for over 33 years. He attended numerous schools in Arson and Auto Theft at Purdue University, University of Illinois in Chicago and the University of Kentucky. He lectured at numerous police schools including the State Police Academy and Eastern Kentucky University. Landon was a member of the National Sheriff's Association, The Harvard Associates in Police Science, the International Association of Auto Theft Investigators, and Kentucky Chiefs of Police, a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the Kentucky Police Officers Associations since the early 1950's. He joined the KPOA while employed by the State Police and was President of the association from June, 1989 to July, 1990. Mr. Pilcher retired from the NATB now known as the National Insurance Crime Bureau on November 1, 1987. He specialized in fishing and golf after retirement. Landon was respected and admired by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Mr. Pilcher is survived by his son, LeMoyne (Karen) Pilcher, granddaughter, Kaitlin McCrory, and step-grandson, Christian J. Schott. He was preceded in death by his three sisters, Ada, Laura and Carnell and his brother, Stewart Pilcher. <b>Funeral Information</b> Services will be 1:00 pm, Tuesday, April 16, at Clark Legacy Center, Versailles Road. Private burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Honorary casketbearers are Jim Short, Mike and Lane Stonecypher, Dan Ahler, Grant Sudduth and Mike Butler. Visitation will be 11:00 am until time of service on Tuesday.
