Obituary of John "Bubby" Glover Hockensmith

<b>Obituary</b> John "Bubby" Glover Hockensmith, 73, of Frankfort passed away on Friday, June 21st in Bardstown, KY. He passed away surrounded by his children and loved ones. He was born on January 4th, 1940 to John and Margaret Suter Hockensmith. He spent his entire life in Frankfort until the last year when he resided in Bardstown, KY near one of his children. A 1958 graduate of Elkhorn High School, he attended Georgetown College before joining the Kentucky National Guard/U.S. Army Reserves, retiring as a first Sargent, after more than 30 years of service. He began working for the U.S. Postal Service in 1961, carrying mail around Frankfort for 38 years until his retirement in 1999. Beloved by his customers, he took great pride in his work; delivering the mail with a smile, a joke, or a wave. His service was the embodiment of the long time postal motto. He married Judith Ann Lee in 1961 and was with his sweetheart for 33 years until her untimely passing in 1994. He cared for her during her illness with love, gentleness and compassion. He was a member of Forks of Elkhorn Baptist Church, and a former member of First Baptist and North Fork Baptist churches of Frankfort, where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher for several years. He loved all sports, but especially the Chicago Cubs and Bears. He also loved history and playing cards, but most of all ---- he simply loved spending time with family and friends and laughing and joking. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Judith Ann Lee; his parents, John and Margaret Suter Hockensmith; and sisters, Sally Gayle and infant Margaret "Pete" Hockensmith. He is survived by his brothers: Swigert "Sonny" of Lawrenceburg and Francis of Frankfort; three sons: Kenneth Dale (Tammy) of Frankfort; Timothy Lee (Margaret) of Bardstown; and David Lynn of Nashville; and one daughter Cynthia Gale of Frankfort; three grandsons: Johnathon (Kenny); Gentry Hoover and Paul David (Tim). <b>Funeral Information</b> Funeral services will be held at Clark Legacy Center, Versailles RD on Tuesday, June 25th at 10:30 AM with Rev. David Hinson and Rev. Todd Lester officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Casketbearers include Johnathon Hockensmith, Hoover Hockensmith, Paul Hockensmith, Todd Hammons, Marty Hammons, Chad Hockensmith, Brad Hockensmith, Mike Lee, Steve Lee and David Gayle. Visitation will be held Monday, June 24, from 4-8 PM at the funeral home.
