Obituary of Marjorie Hoffman

<b>Obituary</b> Marjorie Mendenhall Hoffman, widow of Nelson M. Hoffman, Jr., President Emeritus of Midway College, passed on to new life on April 13, 2013 in Lexington, Kentucky. Born in Gove, Kansas April 3, 1922, she was the daughter of Geneva Morrison Mendenhall and George L. Mendenhall. She earned a Baccalaureate at Asbury College where her grandfather, Henry Clay Morrison, the founder of Asbury Theological Seminary, was serving as president of the college at the time. She was married December 3, 1942, the day after her husband was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Navy. Marjorie and her husband taught school in Ozawkie, KS prior to attending the Kennedy School of Missions at Hartford Seminary, Hartford, CT, and then served as educational missionaries of the Methodist Church in South India from 1949 until 1957 at Hyderabad, Tandur, and Kodaikanal. She had a deep interest in learning and literature and participated with her husband in his career as an educator. A published poet, she edited several literary magazines and achieved recognition for her critical ability. She and her husband were world travelers who, after living numerous places around the eastern United States, settled in Versailles, KY in 2000. They celebrated 65 years of marriage prior to Dr. Hoffman's death in 2008. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her four siblings and by her beloved daughter-in-law, Gale Clark Hoffman. She is survived by her five children, eleven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren: son Nelson M. Hoffman, III, grandchildren Miguel Hoffman and Sarah (Evan) Hoffman-Morgan, and great-grandchild Iris Marjorie; son Michael H. (Kathy) Hoffman, grandchildren Wendy Hatfield and great-grandchild Thomas, Stephanie (Robert) Theakston and great-grandchild Rhodes, and Michelle (Shawn) Granoski; daughter Elizabeth H. (Michael) Ross, grandchildren Lauren (Joseph) Busterna and great-grandchild Andrew, and Michael Ross, II; son George M. (Debra) Hoffman, grandson George Nelson Hoffman; son Joseph M. Hoffman (Gale - deceased), grandchildren Meghan, Katherine, and Eric. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Jane Hoffman Ewing and husband Rev. John L. Ewing, by her former daughter-in-law Sally F. Hoffman, who remained close, and by several nieces and nephews. <b>Funeral Information</b> A memorial service will be held in Estes Chapel at Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, KY on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at 11:00 a.m.
