Obituary of Mason Anthony Gilbert

Online Obituaries for Versailles KY Mason, Anthony Gilbert, 19, passed away Thursday, May 14, 2015. His life will be celebrated on May 20th, 2015, at 3pm, at Southland Christian Church, Building A on Harrodsburg Road with a reception to follow from 4pm to 7pm in Building F. Mason was born in Lexington to Angela D. Wiese and Troy A. Gilbert, both of Versailles, on June 28, 1995. His parents, grandparents and great grandmothers: Pauline Wiese of Somerset and Jean Clark of Millville, will long remember the easy baby waking up happy and playing who grew into the toddler with a thousand questions and the adolescent with an ever ready grin and a penchant for fun. Early in middle school, Mason discovered his natural talent as an athlete, excelling in wrestling and football, and later body building. However, what his teammates and friends remember is not just his natural ability, but how he went out of his way to support, encourage and hold up the ones around him. He was the one to champion the underdog and include the one on the outside. A loving older brother to Ethan J. Gilbert and Erin Paige Myers, both of Versailles, Mason sparks stories of being the champion frog gigger, who refused to touch a frog until it was skinned and cooked, and as the brother who wouldn't stop trying until he put a smile on your face. Mason was well loved by a large and extended family, including his maternal grandparents, Paul and Paula Wiese, of Lexington, and his paternal grandparents, Robert and Debbie Gilbert of Frankfort, who remember the young man who could lose his keys not just once a day, but throughout the day, whose phone was always broken, whose lost sunglasses were perched on his head and who never met a stranger. A 2014 graduate of Woodford County High School, Mason was the friend in search of a smile. Whether it was a surprise visit home, a gift, a joke, or always being ready for goofy fun, he delighted in putting joy on someone else's face. He loved hot Cheetos in his burrito, would gladly give you his fruits and vegetables, consumed more protein than anyone else and lived by the motto, friends don't let friends skip leg day. Mason was an E2 Seaman for the United States Navy, following a second cousin, who is a retired Lieutenant Commander with the United States Navy. The selfless uplifting of others, especially those struggling, was what his Naval shipmates counted as his most outstanding trait. Mason was also a member of Forks of Elkhorn Baptist Church. As his family and friends grieve a lifetime that was much too short, they encourage us all to cherish the ones close to us, hold them close for as long as we possess them and like Mason put a smile on someone's face today. Funeral Information Funeral Services will be 3pm Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at Southland Christian Church, Building A on Harrodsburg Rd. A Gathering of Family and Friends will follow from 4pm until 7pm at the church in Building F.
