Obituary of Roger Ellis Buchanan

<b>Obituary</b> Hazel Green- Roger Ellis Buchanan, 79, was born in Hazel Green, KY, May 11, 1933 to the late John Beverly and Ethel Johnson Buchanan. He was a graduate of Hazel Green Academy and Berea College (1954). He was a member of the Christian Church. He was stationed at the Seventh Army Headquarters in Germany during his two years in the US Army. Roger was employed in IBM's personnel department in 1956. After attending graduate school at the Universities of Kentucky, Alabama and Tennessee, he joined the state's budget office as a Budget Analyst in 1960. He was appointed Kentucky State Budget Director in 1966. In 1972, he was named Deputy Commissioner of Finance, responsible for staffing and reorganizing the state government under Governor Wendell Ford, where he conceived and created the position of Secretary of the Cabinet. Roger later held positions in the Legislative Research Courts, where he traveled to Ecuador in 1965, as a consultant for the US Alliance for Progress. He was named Chief Financial Officer for Northern Kentucky University, by President Dr. A.D. Albright in 1976. For thirty years, he and his brothers owned and operated Walnut Ridge Farm in Georgetown. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Ida Nell Buchanan (Marvin) Mitchell and his brothers; Kenneth Allen and George Wilmer "Jack" Buchanan. <b>Funeral Information</b> Graveside service will be held at 2pm Sat, June 16, 2012 at Hazel Green Cemetery.
