Obituary of Dora Todd Sweeney
Dora Todd Sweeney, (63), wife of Michael Sweeney, passed away on Friday November 24th 2023 in Lexington, Kentucky after a courageous 3 ½ year battle with cancer. Dora was born in Baltimore, Maryland on January 13, 1960 to the late Wilbur Joe and Claudette Todd. She worked at McAlpins Department Store, later Dillards Department Store, for 20 years before retiring as a visual merchandise manager in 2012. Dora was very involved with the Lexington Bluegrass Lodge #4 Fraternal Order of Police Auxiliary, where she served 10 years as their president from 2001-2011. Dora was also very involved with her neighborhood, and was a Past President of Cumberland Hill Neighborhood Association as well as serving 6 years as president of the Cumberland Hill Swimming Pool Association. Dora was also a talented and meticulous wedding coordinator, having coordinated many weddings for friends and acquaintances. Dora loved to travel and loved her favorite beach and ocean resort location, Putna Cana, Dominica Republic where she and Mike spent six glorious vacations there over the years.
In addition to her husband, Mike, Dora is survived by her two daughters, Genevieve (Dave Moss) Day, and Taylor Sweeney; and her grandchildren, Drew Day, Danity Greene, and Serenity Moment. She is also survived by a brother, Freddie Powell, brothers in law, Doug Sweeney (Annette), Rick Sweeney, sisters in law Susan Sweeney Crum and Robin Berg (Randy). Dora is also survived by her very special close group of girl friends that referred to themselves as “The Twisted Sisters”.
In addition to her father, Dora was preceded in death by her brothers, Denny and Donnie Todd, her son in law Spencer Day, and her brother in law Denny Crum.
A celebration of life service will be held for Mrs. Dora Todd Sweeney on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 12pm at Clark Legacy Center-Brannon Crossing, with a visitation from 11am till time of service and a reception to follow till 3pm. A visitation will also be held on Friday, December 1, 2023 from 5pm-8pm at the funeral home. A private inurnment will be held by family on Monday, December 4, 2023 at the Lexington Cemetery.
