Obituary of Nickie Shryock

Nickie Shryock, 80, died on Thursday, September 7, 2023, at Thomson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore, Kentucky. He was born on February 5, 1943, to the late Ezra “Jack” and Anna Raider Shryock. Nickie is survived by his wife of 40 years, Lisa Shryock; his sons, Patrick (Mary) Shryock and Justin (Kristen) Shryock; and his three granddaughters, Anna, Lizzy and Maggie Shryock.  

Nickie was a graduate of Versailles High School and served in the United States Army, including a 13-month tour in Vietnam. Nickie retired as a Sergeant for the Versailles Police Department. He was the true meaning of community servant. Among his many duties of serving the people of Woodford County, Nickie was the last elected Versailles City Judge before the current District Court System was enacted. He served 7 terms on the Versailles City Council and was a former Post Commander of the American Legion. Nickie served as the Security Coordinator for the Woodford County Board of Education and was a longtime bookkeeper for Cable’s Furniture. Lastly, he retired from Clark Funeral Home as a licensed Funeral Director for 14 years.  

Funeral Service will be 1:00 PM Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at Clark Funeral Home, Rose Hill with Brother Gary Maynard officiating. Burial will follow in Versailles Cemetery. Serving as casketbearers will be Jon Morgan, Mark Lancaster, Hal Roberts, Patrick Edinger, David Bird, and Fred Siegelman. Honorary casketbearers will be Owen Roberts and Paul Downey. Visitation will be from 11am until the start of the service.
