Obituary of Wm J. Denton

Wm. J. Denton, 79, passed away on Friday, August 18, 2023. The loving husband of Rebecca M. Denton, William was born November 20, 1943, to the late Carl and Angela Nieder Denton in Louisville, Kentucky. A member of the St. John’s Episcopal Church in Versailles, Kentucky, he was a former firefighter for the City of Louisville and an Ombudsman for the Kentucky Department of Education. William loved serving his community through both his career and personal time as a football official for the Kentucky High School Athletic Association in Louisville and a volunteer for the Pegasus Parade. He oversaw the VIP section, ensuring the celebrities that participated in the festivities were where they needed to be. He took immense pride in both his work and family. In his down time, William enjoyed golfing, camping, and of course, fishing.  

In addition to his wife, Rebecca M. Denton, William is survived by his children, Julie (Jeffery) Brooks of Frankfort, Timothy (Lina) Denton of Frankfort, and Scott (Julie) Denton of Louisville; a sister, Mary Talon of Hawaii; brothers, Tony (Judy) Denton of Tennesse and James Denton of Louisville; his grandchildren, Dameon Denton, William Brooks, Jacob Denton, Ryan Denton, and Kyle Brooks; and a great granddaughter, Lindsey Denton.

William was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Angela Nieder Denton; sisters, Elizabeth Denton, Judy Laun and, Sara Korfhag ; brothers, Sam Denton and Thomas Denton; a granddaughter, Erica Brooks; and great granddaughter, Mackenzie Denton. 

A Memorial Service will be held 11:00am on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Versailles, Kentucky.
