



Obituary of Doris Smith Woodside
Doris Smith Woodside, 91, passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2023. The wife of the late Kelly Woodside,Doris was born May 15, 1932, to the late Cecil Moore,Sr, and Ruby Kelly Moore Black, in Defoe, Kentucky. After graduating from Henry County High School, Doris obtained her master's degree in education at Georgetown College. A 26-year teacher, Doris spent most of her career at Millville Elementary but also spent a portion of that time at Simmons Elementary in Versailles. She was a devoted member of Capital City Christian Church, where her love for children and education extended to the Sunday School classroom.When Doris was away from the classroom, she enjoyed spending quality time with her family, making fond memories while RV camping, fishing, and traveling.
Doris is survived by her daughters, Vickie (John) Varner and Jerrie (Micky) Gunn; grandchildren, John (Heather) Lewis Varner, II, Michelle (Cameron) Waters, and Miranda Gunn; and her great grandchildren, John Lewis Varner, III and Lincoln Varner.
In addition to her loving husband, Kelly Woodside, and her parents, Cecil Moore, Sr and Ruby Kelly Moore Black, Doris was preceded in death by herstepfather Granville Black, an infant brother, Estill Moore; and her brother, Cecil Moore, Jr.
A Funeral Service will be held 1:00p, Friday, June 23, 2023, at Clark Legacy Center, 3000 Versailles Rd, Frankfort, KY, with Pastor Vern Huber officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, with Adrain Varner, Dale Varner, Darrell Varner, Gary Varner, Lee Varner, and Eric Varner serving as Pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers include Carlos Pugh, Jimmy Chisholm, Leona Smith, Stephanie Thomas, and Billy “Slick” Carpenter. Visitation will be held from 11:00a until the time of service on Friday, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests Memorial Contributions be made to Bluegrass Care Navigators, 643 Teton Trail Frankfort, Kentucky 40601. The Dementia Society of America or a charity of your choice.
