Obituary of Robert Steele McGlothlin
Robert Steele McGlothlin, 88, born in Boyd County and late of Versailles, Ky., died at home on June 6, 2023, after a remarkable tussle with cancer. He leaves behind loved ones: wife Betty Foley McGlothlin of 62 years; daughters Mary Beth (Bob) Rouse of Midway and Laura Anderson of White House, Tenn.; grandsons Steele (Shelby) Rouse, Clay Rouse, and Chance Anderson; and sweet great-granddaughter Eleanor Clay Rouse.
Bob was a fan of Woodford County baseball, Diet Pepsi, and voting booths. He was the man in overalls driving a Prius with classical music on the radio. And Bob possessed many skills. He could fix a motor, run a business, spin a tale, and build a house. After graduating from Boyd Co. High School in 1952 and the University of Kentucky in 1956, Bob ran the family dairy farm, launched B&B Tires and Batteries, and served the Big Sandy Water District for 25 years, as superintendent and board member. A natural leader, Bob served two terms as president of the Kentucky Rural Water Board, president of Boyd County Farm Bureau, and a board member of Production Credit Association.
When he was diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma in early 2019, Bob steered clear of treatment and lived four more immensely satisfying years. His was as steady as a tractor in third gear, as gentle as a summer shower, and as strong as a slab of granite. Those wishing to celebrate Bob’s life can join his family and friends at Clark Funeral Home in Versailles, on Sunday June 11, 2023 at 2 p.m. or make a contribution in his honor to the Food Pantry for Woodford County, PO Box 1066, Versailles, Ky. 40383.
