Obituary of Sara Ware Murray Moore

Sara Ware Murray Moore was born January 8, 1934, in West Point, Mississippi to the late Van Horn Murray and Minerva Helen Rice. She had four sisters, and one brother, Edgar Murray.

She received her master’s degree in education which prepared her for the teacher training she pursued. Additionally, she worked at Kentucky State University tutoring students that came her way and oriented the new students who enrolled at the university. As a teacher at Rosenwald, Sara found the school to be a safe haven for her and the children she taught.

Sara was united in marriage to Reverend Kidd Leon Moore, Jr, on May 20, 1958, in Richmond, Virginia. To that union two children were born, a daughter, Karen and a son, Leon, both of Frankfort, Kentucky, who she loved dearly.

Sara was meek, kind, and a quiet-spirited person who loved to teach and train. She was an active member of First Baptist Church which she enjoyed. She was a Sunday School teacher, member of the Women’s Missionary Union (W.M.U.), assisted with Baptist Training Union (BTU) and Vacation Bible School, and operated First Baptist Church’s daycare.

Sara entered eternal peace with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at Frankfort Regional Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, and her beloved husband, K.L. Moore, Jr.

She is survived by her family: son, Leon; daughter, Karen; nephew, Van Case Murray; faithful friends and caregivers, Richard (Annie) Smith who spent the last five years with her; and a host of First Baptist Church Frankfort members and friends.
