Obituary of Anna Bell Phillips

Anna Bell “Avonelle May” Phillips, age 81 of Versailles, Ky, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2023 at home with her loving family by her side. She was the daughter of Luther & Delma May and was born March 28, 1941 at Draffin, KY.

Our Mother worked all over during her younger years. She was employed by Delta Airlines, Bell and Howell Telephone Company and finally as a hairdresser for over 40 years. She was a child of God, woman of faith and someone who had a great sense of humor. She was a loving caregiver to many and one who always spoke her mind. If she thought it, she said it. Our Muv had no filter, so we always had that to entertain us.

She is preceded in death by her eldest daughter Sabrina and two sisters Charlene Calloway and Virginia E. Rowe.

She is survived by 2 daughters Charlene Jeanine Owens (Jay) of Haysi, Virginia and Serena Ann Ordway (Chris) of Versailles, KY. Also her very special grand-daughter Bridgett Ann Stalker (Shawn) of Elkhorn City, KY whom she called her daughter too.

She is dearly loved by her grandchildren John Tilden Adkins III, Terence Neil Merritt, William Henry Adkins, Jillian Ordway, Kristyn Ordway and Savannah Faith Ordway.

She had many great grandchildren who adored her: Jackson Tyler “Old Whant” Adkins, Makaylan Sellards, Aidan Adkins, Kaiden Adkins, Chelsea Paige Adkins, Victoria Isabella Adkins, Bailee Annison Stalker, Teegan Neil Merritt, Nicholas Stalker, Logan Stalker, and Clay Stalker.

She is also survived by her sister Shelby Jean Rowe of Maumee, Ohio and several nieces & nephews.

We sincerely thank the Bluegrass Care Navigators (Teal Hospice Team), Versailles Family Medicine, the Kidney and Cardiac Specialty Teams of UK Hospital, UK Hospital 9th floor staff, UK Cardiac ICU, First Christian Church and the many who brought meals, sent cards and were by our and our sweet mother’s side during this time.

A special thanks to: Her son-in-law Chris Ordway & her grand-daughter Kristyn (Babydoll) Ordway who loved hearing Muv’s stories and hanging out with her, her nephews Lanny Adkins & Floyd Kackley, Physician Assistant Jared Harper of Versailles Family Medicine, Pastor Marcus Lynn for visiting her in the hospital and close family friends Meira Feldner, Stacie Trent, Amanda Howard, Tanya Fuerch and Melissa Thomas for helping us get through this heartbreaking time.

A celebration of life will be held at a later time with family & friends at The Breaks Interstate Park in Breaks, Virginia.

Our “Muv” was a huge advocate & supporter of The Foster Care Council. She had a heart of gold who adored her sweet grand-daughter Savannah.
