Ted Kizziar

Obituary of Ted Kizziar

Ted Kizziar was reunited with his father, Harley Kizziar, for eternity on January 26th, 2023 at the age of 52. He was born on September 16th, 1970, in Dallas, Texas. Ted grew up in San Antonio and Houston Texas, returning to Dallas after college where he met the love of his life, Carie Marie Combs Kizziar. They married on June 5th, 1993. After the birth of their son, Brennan, they moved to Carie’s home state of Kentucky where their daughter Lillian was born. Following 20 years in the restaurant industry in 2010 Ted transitioned to a life of service with AmeriCorps.

One colleague remembers his life as “a master class in how to treat others with kindness, compassion, genuine warmth, and lots of laughter. The void he leaves is so immense that there aren’t any words to fill it.” Another said, “His compassion and servant influence have rippled across this state many times over.”

He will be deeply missed by his wife Carie, son Brennan and wife Shayla, and the great joy of his last months, granddaughter Harley Grace, and daughter Lillian. He is also survived by his mother, Katie Kizziar, sister Mary and husband Ruben Nunez, sister Tracy and husband Rip Rutherford, nieces and nephews Sarah Ballew, Jordan Finan, Jeremy Rutherford, Jamison Rutherford, and Jacob Rutherford, brothers-in-law Buddy Combs, Gary Stickle, and David Stickle, and sister-in-law Paula Magedanz, as well as his large extended family and many friends. He was also blessed to love his daughter’s friends Erin and Scout as his own. A memorial service will be held at Clark Legacy Center in Nicholasville, Kentucky on Monday January 30th, 2023, from 7-9PM. Donations may be given in the names of Ted and Harley Kizziar to Wounded Warrior Project.
