Obituary of James Shouse

Lexington - James Shouse, 78, husband of Betty Shouse, passed away on December 27, 2022, in Lexington. James was born in Booneville, Kentucky, on August 28, 1944, to the late Harlan and Hazel Estepp Shouse. He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Smith Shouse, daughters Jamie Shouse Hernandez, Holly Shouse, and his niece Maggie Fisher Brown, who was like a daughter to him. He was also blessed with seven grandchildren, Austin, Justin, Taylor, Emily, Michael, Carlos, and Andy, and four great-grandchildren, Jordynn, Liam, Oskar, Kaidyn, and one more on the way, all of whom will miss him dearly.

James was a man who believed in the importance of knowing God, working hard, and loving your family. As a young man, he spent two years in the Army. However, he lived most of his life in Lexington, Kentucky, where he was a horse farm worker for over forty years. James was a proud member of the First Wesleyan Church. This past August, he celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary surrounded by family and friends in his beloved church. He was also grateful to have the love of ten of the best siblings a brother could ask for, including his twin brother Jack Shouse, who preceded him in death.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday January 3, 2023 from 10 to 11am at Clark Legacy Center, Brannon Crossing. The funeral will follow beginning at 11am. Burial will immediately follow in Camp Nelson National Cemetery with military honors.
