Obituary of Jayne Batt White

Jayne Batt White, 77, wife of the late Wallace White, passed away on October 12, 2022.  Doris Jayne was born in Salem (Washington Co.), Indiana on January 12, 1945 to the late Arthur and Effie Batt. She grew up on a farm with her brother Bernard and sister Maxine.

Jayne attended Spencerian College in Louisville, KY and worked as a nanny. After graduation, she moved to Lexington and married Wallace White in 1969. From this union, their daughter, Tiffany Elizabeth was born. 

Jayne was the pure definition of selfless.  She was a devoted wife and mother and for many years, she cared for her in-laws (Harry and Mossie White) until their passing along with her own mother, Effie.

Jayne was an active member of Gardenside Christian Church. She taught the 4 and 5 year old Sunday School Class and was a member of the Dorcus Circle.  She was also a member of the Bluegrass Gem and Mineral Society.  She retired in 2019 from the University of Kentucky Department of Agricultural Engineering. She loved working among students. She especially enjoyed the international students, learning about their cultures and often helping them settle in by collecting donated household items and even opening her home to temporarily home a student in need.

Those who knew Jayne, knew of her love of shopping. She wore bright clothing and big jewelry. Jayne enjoyed flower gardening, traveling to see family, and antiquing.  She was an incredibly loving mother and grandmother to Rachel and Emily.  She spent her years making her house a welcoming home to every friend her daughter and granddaughter would bring home.  Jayne was a wonderful cook.  She will undoubtedly be remembered at UK for the bourbon balls she made at Christmas that contained a shot of bourbon per bite.  She was known for her roast beef and mashed potatoes and a "unique" spaghetti and meatballs which many would never forget.   Jayne was a stranger to no one and found great purpose sharing in the successes, joys, and challenges of those around her. She was authentically and wholeheartedly there for those in her life. 

Jayne is survived by her daughter, Tiffany (Chris) Hoover, of Lexington; sister, Maxine Early, of North Carolina; brother, Bernard (Becky) Batt, of Florida;  grandchildren, Rachel (John) Kuntz, and Emily Hoover, both of Lexington; and her nieces and nephews, Keith Early, Sheri Teague, Valerie Cole, and Craig Batt.

A visitation for Jayne will be held on October 21, 2022 at Clark Legacy Center-Brannon Crossing from 5pm to 7pm.  A funeral service will immediately follow at 7pm.
