James "Jimmy" Carter

Obituary of James "Jimmy" Lynn Carter

James “Jimmy” Lynn Carter, 75, passed away peacefully Sunday, October 2, 2022 with his family at his side. He was born in Wallins Creek, Harlan, Kentucky, to the late Charles and Dorothy Carter.

Jim was a devout Christian and longtime member of Grace Baptist Church, an avid fisherman, and a car enthusiast, who proudly bore the title of “Master Mechanic”. He completely rebuilt classic cars from the ground up, a skill that was an extension of his many years as a talented tool and die maker at IBM in Lexington. He was a proud member of the Thoroughbred Bass Club for 30 years. Jim was a devoted dog lover/owner, with a particular affection for German Shepherds (and in recent years, was rarely seen without his big “Ben” at his side). Jim loved his family and his many friends and will be missed by all of them.

He is survived by his sister, Susan Carter Stokely (Raymond Patrick); brother, Larry Carter (Valerie); nieces, Ami Guilfoil (Michael), Leslie Payton, Kimberly Carter, and Jennifer Cabrera (James).

A gathering of family and friends will be Saturday, October 8, 2022 from 1-3PM at Clark Legacy Center, Brannon Crossing, with memorial service following at 3PM.
