Obituary of Lawrence "Larry" Bowman Jr

Versailles - Lawrence “Larry” Bowman Jr., 76, passed away on Saturday, December 18, 2021. A native of Versailles, he was born on August 2, 1945 to the late Lawrence Sr. and Ellen Lorine Harold Bowman. He worked for National Distillers, which was eventually sold to Jim Beam, where he retired after 35 years.  During this time, Mr. Bowman concurrently served in the Kentucky National Guard for 22 years.  In 1979, he married his wife of 42 years, Rhonda Mitchell Bowman.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Jeff (Meta) Bowman, of Versailles and Michael Scott (Jennifer) Mitchell, of Chesapeake, VA; his sister, Agnes Rice; his brother, Lonnie (Sally) Bowman; his grandchildren, Whitney Reed, Madison Bowman, DeLaney Bowman, Morgan Mitchell, Jonah Mitchell, and MaKaya Mitchell; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Lyndsey DeLaney Bowman; his sister, Juanita Jones; and his brother-in-law, Bobby Rice. 

Larry was a formidable man with a sweet and gentle spirit.  He loved his family dearly and worked hard all his life to provide for them.  As a member of New Hope Baptist in Versailles, he fed many hungry folks through the years as its resident Wednesday night cook.  And now, no one in Heaven will go thirsty because he’s seeing to it that everyone has “summin’ cold to drink.”

Funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at Clark Funeral Home, Rose Hill. Bro. Wesley Noss and Chris Harper will be officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Serving as casketbearers will be Kevin Jones, Jonah Mitchell, Matthew Noss, Robbie Rice, Josh DeVore, and Andrew Reed. Honorary casketbearers will be Steve Jones, Dave Taylor, Kenneth Moore, and Bobby Abshire. Visitation will be held from 5:00pm until 7:00pm on Monday, December 27, 2021 at Clark Funeral Home, Rose Hill.
