Obituary of Judy Burwell

Judy Burwell passed away in her sleep, at home, at the age of 90 on December 4, 2021. She went peacefully, but she did not go gently into that good night – a model of sheer will and determination until the end. Judy was born July 3, 1931 to the late Oliver and Dorothy Burwell in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. She was a true matriarch who lived her whole life for her children, Leah Tolliver, Julie Burwell, Melanie Burwell (predeceased) and Leslie Childers. They will never be the same without her. She also leaves to mourn her memory her granddaughter Elise (Nick) Bellisano and grandson Reed (Alyssa) Childers. Judy grew up on a farm in Stoney Creek, Ontario with her beloved sister Barbara (Gerry) Norman & brother Neil (Amy) Burwell who have predeceased her. A trail blazer of her own kind, Judy worked most of her career in the offices of the thoroughbred horse industry in KY, notably Claiborne Farm and Spendthrift Farm, before retiring as office manager from Meadowview Farm in Versailles, KY. Judy was a golfer and bridge player, and was fond of watching the birds at her feeder. A lover of anything sparkly, you could always expect her to be wearing a fabulous brooch or pair of earrings. She enjoyed eating lobster, cake and ice cream, filling out the daily crossword and listening to Aerosmith (Dream On Steven Tyler!). Heartfelt thanks go to her physicians and staff of the Gill Heart Institute at UK HealthCare who provided her with compassionate and excellent care. A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, December 10, 2021 at 5pm followed by a gathering until 7pm at Clark Legacy Center, Brannon Crossing, Nicholasville, KY.
