Obituary of Donald Gene Wright

Donald Gene Wright, 77, passed away Friday, November 26, 2021. He was born in Versailles, Kentucky, to the late Adam and Emmie Riddle Wright on September 24, 1944. Mr. Wright served in the United States Army National Guard and as a Reserve of the Army. In the early 70s, the Governor appointed him Police Judge for the city of Midway while also beginning his career as a Financial Analyst for IBM. In retirement, when not tinkering around in the garage or messing about in the yard, Don worked for himself remodeling homes and performing Carpentry work for others.

Over the years, several vehicles would find their way onto his driveway and in his garage — as unique or vintage automobiles caught his eye. Perhaps nostalgic about his teenage years on Midway farms, he added a late 50s McCormick Farmall 130 tractor to his collection. He built a small barn out behind his residence to house it. His last extensive project was creating a fully functional model train display that replicates, in great detail, his hometown of Midway, KY.

Don once had a cat named Butthead. He went through a square dancing phase, collected and dealt in antiques, and often napped in an old Montgomery Ward reclining chair — his very first credit card purchase back in the day. He came to be most comfortable in flannel shirts and worn denim after a wardrobe of business suits during his twenty-five or so corporate years.

His children, Donald Gray Wright, Jodi Perry, and Eric Wright, survive him. Surviving grandchildren are Zachary Perry, Hunter Perry, Skylar Perry, Ashley Wright, and Crystal Wright. He is also survived by his long time partner, Eileen Larmour. Besides his parents, his brother James Luther (Jimmy) Wright and sister Anna Lois (Sissy) Sorrel preceded him in death.

There will be a Gathering of Family and Friends on Saturday, December 4, 2021, from 11am to 12pm at Clark Funeral Home, 241 Rose Hill in Versailles. A Memorial Service will follow at 12pm. The family asks that masks be worn while indoors for the Visitation and Service.
