Obituary of Anthony “Tony” Battaglia

Anthony “Tony” Battaglia, 74, passed away Friday, September 3, 2021. The husband of Sondra Blackwell Battaglia, Tony was born April 22, 1947 to the late Sam and Marie Carullo Battaglia in Kansas City, Missouri. Tony was a thoroughbred horse trainer that lived and breathed horses his entire life. In addition to training he also worked at several prominent Central KY Horse Farms throughout his career.   He enjoyed talking horses with anyone who enjoyed a good story.  He also loved to watch old westerns, going out to eat or even just having his family cook a big meal.  

In addition to his loving wife of 53 years, Sondra Blackwell Battaglia, Tony leaves behind their children, Toni (Phil) Counti of Missouri, Sam (Tammy) Battaglia of Georgetown and Joann (Tom) Sullivan of Georgetown; his sisters, Pearl Battaglia of Missouri, and Rosemary (Dennis) Crouch & their family, also of Missouri; grandchildren, Ginnifer Counti, Tiffany Counti, Samantha (Dustin) Reed, Caitlin Battaglia, and Gabby Battaglia; as well as his great-grandchildren, Gia, Gracie, Wesley, Aspen, Ember, and Oakley. 

Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Marie Carullo Battaglia, and a sister, Marie Battaglia. 

Services will be held privately in Kansas City, Missouri.
