Obituary of Christina Marie Carpenter

Christina (Chris) Marie Carpenter met Jesus face to face on July 16, 2021, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. While the disease robbed her of precious years here on earth, she is now completely healed. She passed peacefully with her children at her bedside.

Born on March 20, 1947, in Riverside, California, Chris was a loving and generous sister and mother, and is survived by her two children Ryan Carpenter and Lea Morgan (Scott), her brothers Walt Lyons (Diane) and Neal Lyons (Evelyn), and her six amazing grandchildren, Tanner, Elnora, Paeton, Jayden, Walter and William.

Although she was unable to be the engaging grandmother she would have loved to have been, her grandchildren have been raised to love and value what she loved, including singing Raffi children’s songs, eating monster cookies, baking in the kitchen, bargain shopping and exploring the beach. She loved the sun, ocean, beach and shells! Her first move away from California was to Hawaii, where she lived at the YWCA. She was an adventurer, and her last trip to the beach was with her first grandson, Tanner, when he was a toddler. Though already living with dementia, she was in her element sharing her love of the beach with her grandson. She loved collecting Mary Engelbreit items and cherished her new calendar every year.

Christina devoted much of her adult life to loving and leading children. She had a degree in Early Childhood Education from California State University, Long Beach. She held a variety of school based positions, but especially loved little children. She loved engaging children with music and even learned to play an autoharp so she could lead kids with more enthusiasm in circle time. She was the master of the flannel graph and used her creativity to communicate stories to kids like a skilled storyteller. She attended Northeast Christian Church in Louisville, Kentucky, with her son, Ryan, and served kids faithfully at Trinity Presbyterian Preschool in Louisville, Kentucky, for many years. She will be dearly missed, but her family finds comfort in knowing that she is no longer limited by a tragic disease. Alzheimer’s is awful, but Jesus faithfully provided for Chris and her family throughout this season. We believe she has already found the warmest beach in heaven and is finally at peace!

A celebration of life will be held at Northeast Christian Church 9900 Brownsboro Rd Louisville, KY 40241 on August 10th at 6:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations for circle time materials can be made to the Trinity Presbyterian Preschool 10200 Shelbyville Rd Louisville, KY 40223.
