Obituary of Margaret Ann Smith

Frankfort – Margaret Ann Neal Smith, 73, wife of Elmer E. Smith, passed away on Tuesday, April 27, 2021. A native of Lexington, she was born on May 8, 1947 to the late Edwin and Patty Marie Neal. She worked for the Transporation Cabinet for 28 years in the Division of Accounts. She retired as the Manager. She was more than a boss to her employees; she was a friend. Margaret was a member of New Harvest Assembly of God. She loved helping people and had a heart for service. She worked with the Missionettes and in the children’s ministry. Margaret loved games, playing bridge, loved her church, and loved to garden. Margaret was a prayer warrior.  

In addition to her husband of 49 years, she is survived by her daughter, Lisa Meredith Smith Rodgers, Frankfort; her son, Dr. Edward (Betsy) Smith, Cynthiana; her brother, William “Billy” (Carol) Neal, Nicholasville; her sister-in-law, Martha Ann Neal, Versailles; her grandchildren, Edward “Keith” Rodgers, Deborah Nicole Rodgers, Ann Marie Gabhart, Evan Patrick Gabhart, James Tyler Rodgers, Ethan Sullivan Smith, Edward Harrison “Harry” Smith, and Ross Smith; as well as her caretaker and friend, Margaret Smith Chaney.  

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Neal.  

Funeral service will be held at 7:00pm on Thursday, April 29, 2021 at Clark Legacy Center, Versailles Rd. Rev. Scott Bowman will be officiating. Burial will be held at 9:00am on Friday, April 30, 2021 at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 4:00pm until 7:00pm on Thursday, April 29, 2021 at Clark Legacy Center, Versailles Rd.
