Obituary of John Mitchell

John Robert Mitchell passed away peacefully on January 20, 2021.  He was born June 15, 1934 in Lexington, KY.  He is survived by his wife, Janice Marie Cupples; his son, Don Mitchell (Lisa); daughter, Becky Hopper (David) and grandchildren Jason Hopper (Samantha) with great-grandchild, Barrett, and Michael Hopper (Meredith) with great-grandchild, Charlotte; daughter, Clare Frost (Ray) with grandchild, Kate Frost with great-grandchildren, Daniel Ray Sizemore and John Frost.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Clara and Bill Mitchell and his wife of 62 years, Ann Wilder Mitchell.  John graduated from the University of Kentucky in Lexington with a Journalism degree.  He worked as a photographer for the Huron, SD Plainsman; managed photographic services at the University of Kentucky for 35 years, concurrently, Reserve Police Officer and Deputy Sheriff, Lexington, KY.  John was a Past President, University Photographers Association of America; past Training Officer, U.S. Coast Guard Auxillary and member of the Hibernians.   He was active in many volunteer positions at Mary Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Lexington, KY; Cursillista and Marriage Tribunal Advocate, Catholic Diocese of Lexington; owner, Cornwall Computer Systems.  John very much loved people, computers, reading, traveling and family.  A Celebration of Life and Visitation will be held Sunday, January 24, 2021 from 1-4pm at Clark Legacy Center, Brannon Crossing.  The Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at 11:30am at Mary Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Rev. Dan Noll and Rev. Aldrin Tayag concelebrating.  Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery immediately following the funeral Mass.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to Mary Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 601 Hill N Dale Rd, Lexington, KY 40503.  clarklegacycenter.com
