Obituary of Hugh Van Deventer Slatery

<b>Obituary</b> Hugh Van Deventer Slatery, 53, of Lexington, died unexpectedly on Sunday, June 6, 2010 of an aortic tear. Preceded in death by his father, Herbert Harrison Slatery, Jr., he is survived by his mother Carter Van Deventer Slatery of Knoxville, Tennessee; his three children, Carter Hill Slatery, Hugh Van Deventer Slatery, Jr., and Sharon Isabella Grace Slatery, and their loving mother Danita Morris Slatery, all of Lexington, Kentucky; his brothers, Herbert Harrison Slatery III and wife Cary Pridgen Slatery of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Charles Kyle Slatery and wife Jane Genette Slatery of Memphis, Tennessee; and a niece and five nephews: Frances Van Deventer Slatery of Birmingham, Alabama and H. Harrison Slatery, IV of Knoxville, Tennessee, Charles Kyle Slatery, Jr. of Washington, D.C., and Sidney Wilson Slatery and John McSpadden Slatery of Memphis, Tennessee. Hugh graduated from Webb School of Knoxville in 1974, and matriculated to Texas Christian University where he earned a degree in Business Administration. He was elected President of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity. After college he worked for Hohenberg Cotton Company, later formed his own brokerage firm in Forth Worth, Texas and eventually moved to Lexington, Kentucky, where he was involved in the financial consulting business. He was an active participant at Immanuel Baptist Church in Lexington, and loved seeing his children taught and coached at Lexington Christian Academy. His smile, laughter and compassion will be missed greatly by his family and friends. <b>Funeral Information</b> The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 10, 2010 at Clark Legacy Center, from 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M., and there will be a memorial service immediately following the receiving of friends with Keith Johnson, LCA's Chaplin, officiating the service.
