Obituary of Dr. Morris J. Bitzer

Obituary Dr. Morris J. Bitzer, of Lexington, KY, went to be with the Lord suddenly, on March 28, 2010, after a brief illness at the age 74. He has been reunited with his parents Homer and Edna Bitzer and his sister Doris, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Mabel Bitzer and three children, Jay Bitzer of Garland, TX; Melanie Bitzer of Lawrenceburg, KY; and Craig Bitzer of Sherman, TX; as well as his two brothers, Phil and Bill Bitzer of Indiana. He is also the grandfather of two girls, Lindsey Novakova and Jennifer Bitzer. Dr. Bitzer worked for thirty eight years at the University of Kentucky as an Extension Specialist in the Agriculture Department. His specialty was no-till corn, for which he became affectionately know as the "Corn Doc." After retiring two years ago, he focused his energies on promoting and researching sweet sorghum and helped start the National Sweet Sorghum Growers Association. He was a farmer at heart and will be remembered for his passion for farming and helping other farmers in any way possible. He will also be known for his passion for all things UK Wildcats! Apart from the legacy he left behind, he also takes a legacy with him. Morris was a Gideon for almost forty years and enjoyed passing out Bibles at the schools and jails and even travelled on occasion and spoke for them. The number of people influenced for Christ from his efforts will never be known here on earth. He also was proud of the fact that all three of his children had accepted Christ as their Savior as well. As a member of Anchor Baptist Church, he had recently been asked to serve as a deacon and was looking forward to that opportunity. Truly Morris loved the Lord and served Him in many ways throughout his life. His rewards and accolades from his job are too many to count and enumerate, but his greatest reward, to Him, was to hear, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant."
