Obituary of James Morton "Buddy" Kemper

James Morton Kemper, ‘Buddy’, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 after 85 years of life. A native of Owen County, Buddy was a graduate of Owen County High School and the Southern School of Printing. After graduation, he served in the United States Army stationed in Korea. In 1962 he married the love of his life, Mary Mills Kemper, and they spent the next 58 years together. After 36 years of service he retired from the Lexington Herald Leader. He is survived by his wife Mary, son Jim (Beverly) Kemper, grandchildren Taylor and Ty Kemper and his sister Peggy Thomas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Loula Kemper and siblings Robert Ford, Harold, Alice Doyle and Curty. He was a man with many loves and passions. Among them were working in his garden, fishing, enjoying music with his loving wife, traveling, and a good bourbon. None of these passions were greater than caring for those close to him. He will be missed, but celebrated by many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Saint Jude Children’s Hospital. A graveside service will be held at 10am Tues., Oct. 13, 2020 at Camp Nelson National Cemetery.
